English-Armenian Contemporary Dictionary

The English–Armenian Contemporary Dictionary is the largest existing English–Armenian dictionary and one of the most comprehensive modern lexical resources available for the language pair. The dictionary reflects contemporary English as it is used in governmental, social, cultural, scientific and professional contexts, as well as in many areas relevant to Armenian communities worldwide. It contains more than 115,000 English–Armenian translations and vocabulary covering more than 300 disciplines and professional fields, together with numerous abbreviations, phrases and other lexical information. The second edition underwent thorough revision and expansion. 

The lexical database behind the dictionary 

The published dictionary is based on a structured English–Armenian lexical database containing approximately 49,000 with structured lexical information organized across 300+ subject domains. The underlying resource includes structured lexical information such as multiple senses and translations, domain-specific terminology, phrases and phrasal verbs, grammatical and usage information, and other lexical distinctions developed during the compilation of the dictionary. The database is maintained in XML and was originally designed as a machine-readable, structured lexical resource from which different dictionary outputs can be generated. 

Beyond its use for dictionary publishing, the underlying lexical database may also be relevant to language technology, terminology management, translation technology, computational lexicography and other language-related applications.
